We value young people and believe it is our privilege and responsibility to support and mentor our teens as they chart their life's course. Teen years can be the most difficult, and exciting, and as each young person navigates this season of life, we stand with them.
Relationships are the key to proving one's value to another person. It is through unconditional love and acceptance that value is communicated. Relationships don't just happen, and they do not naturally nurture themselves. A genuine relationship, defined here, is one where the caring adult seeks to look beyond the teen's life resume but instead gazes at each teen as an individual, as possessing intrinsic value and a life whose story is just beginning to be written.
Since the beginning- 1993, this has been a privately funded volunteer run organization. We pay no salaries to anyone. All funds received go directly to our programs. Our commitment is to youth and not fund raising.
Our philosophy is simple- teens have value.
At the teen center, we place value through our:
- fine arts
- north woods camp
- annual events
Atmosphere is often overlooked when opening a teen center. The facility must be inviting. When a person walks into our building its important that they feel it's a special place, and not a run down building with stained ceiling tiles and cobwebs in all the corners. Too often we give teens leftovers and then attempt to show them we think they're important. Believing that a quality facility is an important way to show teens we value them, this teen center was created to be timeless. This can be done, and is done, on a very small budget. Our annual operating expenses do not exceed $50,000.
The Activities provided here are many and the plethora of opportunities afforded teens because of the creativity and diversity of our programs are tremendous.
We offer teens-
- after school programs
- a place to hang out every Friday and Saturday night
- weekend programs
- skilled training with-
- milling machine
- MIG welding
- fine arts
- guitar lessons
- open mic nights
- free use of guitars, drum set, keyboard
- live music on the concert stage
- recording studio
- music festivals in house and in Central Park
- monthly tournaments
- air hockey
- bumper pool
The Adventures take place mainly at our teen camp Bear Claw Lodge:
- camp includes-
- zip line
- ATV trail riding
- Other activities involve day trips to some of our beautiful and nearby State Parks. These trips have included-
- rock climbing
- wild caving
- annual events..
From this... to this...an 18 month interior and exterior renovation. We purchased this circa 1850's building and restored it to much of its historical charm and all the work was completed by hundreds of volunteers who believe teens are valuable.
Thank you all!
